Hints

DeviantTracker Gallery

  • Look at all three "modes" of each trail cam photo to spot any differences.
  • Pay attention to the timestamp in each photo and with what trail cam they were taken.

Hiking Medallion

  • The etching on the back of the medallion is a common code. A full reveal will come in Episode 3.

Topographical Map

  • Take note of important locations - where did the murder take place?
  • Measure approximate distances to help put together the timeline of the night.

Weekly Report

  • Take note of details concerning the trail cams.

Solution

  • The field interviews from Episode 1 gave a general timeline for the night of the murder was established: the expedition members ate at 8:30 PM and had some free time after dinner. Everyone except Toby was in camp at 11 PM. The autopsy declares that Toby died sometime between 9 PM and 11 PM. Therefore, the killer had to commit the murder and make it back to camp in that timeframe.
  • According to the incident report from Episode 1, the murder occurred just outside of Echo Cavern, which is in grid square L06 on the topographical map. The cavern is located near the intersection of four different trails: Tall Pines Trail, Green Bark Trail, Wind Dancer Trail, and Snowshoe Trail. These trails are all about 1.5 to 2 miles long, which can be confirmed with the distance key on the map. Considering the distance, it would take an average of about 40 minutes to walk and about 20 minutes to run from Echo Cavern to camp. With this in mind, any of the four trails could have been used by the killer within the established timeframe.
  • The topographical map shows that several trail cams are positioned along each trail. In the weekly report, it is revealed that the trail cams were malfunctioning during the trip and can only take an automatic photo every 15 minutes. In the DeviantTracker gallery, there are several photos collected from each trail cam on the night of the murder. Each trail cam has a photo taken at 10:15 PM, 10:30 PM, and 10:45 PM. Additionally, each photo has a different mode: default, night vision, and infrared.
  • On the map, all three of these trail cams are positioned along Tall Pines Trail, with F15 furthest west and I30 furthest east. The figure in the photos is moving east, from the general direction of Echo Cavern toward camp. The timeline and distance match up. It also now confirms that Toby was killed sometime between 9 PM and 10:15 PM, because the killer was at F15 and no longer outside of Echo Cavern at 10:15 PM.
  • The killer took Tall Pines Trail to make it back to camp - this evidence helps confirm the killer's movements and further establish the timeline of the night.
