Episode 2

Currently on Off the Record...

Frannie accessed the Copper Cliffs police database to see more detailed information regarding Ashley's death, including a note from Ashley's sibling that says she was investigating at the local country club.

Now that Frannie knows more about Ashley's whereabouts on the day of her death and is getting closer to the truth, she needs to begin eliminating suspects.

Comment Cards

  • ID: MAZ481: Thank you for adding Mimosa Yoga to the schedule this year - It is the ONLY calm in my week and now I never miss a class.
  • ID: LKE306: Thank you to management for all you do - My suggestion is that if there are class participants that are clearly not in a functional state, they should not be allowed in the class that week. Especially for classes that involve drinking like Mimosa Yoga. As it is, I would love to keep coming to yoga, but there are certain people in the class every week who disrupt the whole class. Thank you.
  • ID: TOR565: I've finally tried each bar's specialty drink! I adored the special promotion for the Blue Elk Bourbon. With the 4 kids, it was easy to spend over $75 on dinner, and they brought me a surprise little shot glass! So cute!
  • ID: FWQ094: The VIP bar should be open to regular members once in a while. The drinks in there are too good to waste, and most of the club doesn't even get to try them. I wouldn't even know what I've been missing if the mayor hadn't treated a bunch of us.
  • ID: JJO344: Very much enjoy the new tennis instructor! She's a great teacher, way better than Christian. Great hire!

Episode Finale Video

[A shaky cell phone camera films Judith from across the room.]

Judith: Excuse me? What did you say?

Gertrude: It wasn't about you.

Judith: How DARE you say that? Say that to my face, Gertie!

Gertrude: Oh calm down -

[Judith pounds on the table, silencing the room.]

Judith (building rage): You think you know everything about me? You don't know a goddamn thing about me. You think my life is an open book for you to make fun of?

[Judith throws a shot glass across the table at an unseen target. Sound of shattering glass.]

Dave: Jeez!

Gertrude: (shrieks) What is wrong with you?

Judith: Like your damn husband is such a model of fidelity!

Dave: Okay, Judy, you're still worked up from that reporter earlier -

Judith (enraged): And none of you better believe a THING that Mendoza girl says. Stirring up drama, trying to sink our campaign. Why would I know anything about the crash, or Angel whatever? None of you better believe a word. Not one word.

Dave: Let's just try and clam down -

Judith: Just you watch. Once we're in office, we'll see just what that little brat has to say. And you, too, Gertie!

Gertrude (scoffing): I'm getting out of here.

Judith: That's it, run away! Run away to the bathroom!

Dave (to the room, nervously): Okay, it's just after 8, we're halfway through, and we've had a long day. Should we take 5? Martha, are you seriously filming -

[The recording abruptly ends.]

Harold Richards Campaign Ad Video

Narrator: In his time in office, Thomas Ford Cross has consistently made decisions that hurt Copper Cliffs while lying to us through his teeth.

[TFC's branding/logo is recolored to make it appear ominous.]

Narrator: Mayor Cross claims no one cares about our schools more than he does.

[There is a black-and-white image of a school hallway.]

Narrator: But classroom sizes have increased by one-third, and Cross won't allocate the budget for all our children to have the required resources.

[There are black-and-white images of children looking sad at school.]

Narrator: Cross says he truly believes that Copper Cliffs, as a community, needs to be good to the earth.

[There is a black-and-white image of a road through some trees.]

Narrator: However, under TFC, carbon emissions and water pollution have only gotten worse.

[There are images of pollution.]

Narrator: He says families are the core of our community.

[There is an old photo of a family.]

Narrator: So why doesn't Mayor Cross have one?

[There is an image of an empty playground.]

Narrator: We need to ask ourselves: What has Thomas Ford Cross done - what has he really done for us?

[There is a black-and-white image of TFC's headshot.]

Narrator: The answer (pause) is nothing.

[Cut to black.]

Narrator: This message has been brought to you by the Harold Richards for Mayor campaign.

[There is an image of Harold for Mayor branding.]

  • Addendum: After reviewing the autopsy performed by the county coroner, it is this officer's conclusion that the deceased's death was the result of an intentional homicide, not accidental overdose as was initially speculated, and should be investigated as such.

Reggie's Note

Hi Frannie,

Thanks for reaching out. It was good to hear from someone who's not just... stuck. My dad's thrown himself into work, and my mom's coping by not talking about it. I can see why Ashley enjoyed meeting with you. She liked that you were honest, that she could trust you.

I'm sending the papers that Ash gave me the day she died. It's just a pamphlet and flyer from the country club. It was probably silly to hang onto this stuff, but it was the last thing she asked me to do for her, and I keep expecting her to come back. I think she'd probably want you to have this stuff, though, under the circumstances.

Ash would do exactly what you're doing, if I had been murdered. She was always the one who got to the bottom of things. I wasn't to do whatever I can to live up to her memory. I don't want to be stuck anymore. We need justice and closure, and right now, we don't have either. So if there's anything else I can do for you, just ask. You can count on me.

Let me know what you find.

Sincerely grateful,

Reggie

It got to the library around 10, after it was closed. I cleaned the downstairs bathrooms, then went upstairs. When I went into the women's room, I saw someone was on the toilet in the big stall. I told her I was with Custodial Services and said she needed to leave because the library was closed, but she didn't answer. I asked if she was okay. When she didn't answer again I said if she didn't respond, I was going to call security. No response still, so I looked between the stall crack. She looked knocked out on the toilet, fully dressed, and I saw the needle on her lap. I broke open the door. It wasn't hard. It was obvious she was gone. After I realized that I called 911.

It was almost 11 by then. I don't know how long she must've been there before I found her. I waited outside the library for the police to show.

I was at the protest outside the country club. Ashley showed up later to work on a story. She said she had to talk to people inside. I didn't see her again until later when I heard someone shouting. Judith Richards was yelling at Ashley about something, very upset. I started to move towards Ashley, and saw security physically pulling Judith away, like they were worried she was going to attack Ashley. Ashley said she was physically okay, but she was clearly upset. She said she was going to file a restraining order. There's history there, Judith has been trolling Ashlye's blog. Ash gave me some stuff to hold on to for her, we had a quick hug, and she left. I stayed to clean up, and didn't leave until 9. When I got home, I saw that I'd missed a call from Ashley. She left me a messat at 7:34, saying she was going to be home late, and apologizing that she wouldn't be back in time to make dinner, even though it was her night to cook. That's it. That's the last thing she ever said to me. Ashley didn't do drugs. If that's what you think, you don't know her at all. Have you asked Judith Richards where she was when my sister died? Or what they were arguing about?

Solution

  • Ashley's autopsy approximates Ashley's time of death between 7:45 PM and 8:15 PM. Cross-referencing documents Frannie has sent will help build a timeline for each suspect, revealing which have alibis and which do not.
  • When used in conjunction with the work orders log and reservation schedule, the High Fences screenshots document shows that Kim, TFC, Sebastian, Harold, and Lewis left the country club before Ashley's murder and therefore do not have an alibi.
  • When used in conjunction with the comment cards and receipts, the High Fences screenshots document shows that Judith was still at the country club between 7:45 PM and 8:15 PM, the time of Ashley's death.
  • Judith Richards is innocent, as she is the only suspect with a known alibi. She was in a meeting that occurred at the Copper Cliffs country club at the same time Ashley was murdered.
  • To complete this episode, go to the messages section of keep-safe-pro.com and type "Judith Richards" in a message to Frannie.
