Identifying the Killer

Neeta Patel

Means

• It is unclear whether Neet had the means to have killed Charlie. In Episode 5, it was confirmed that Gavin drugged Charlie, so that is no longer a factor.

Motive

• Neeta was having an affair with Charlie's wife, Sarah. Neeta bought bus tickets to run away with Sarah and her daughter Maggie. However, Sarah was not comfortable with the idea because she thought Charlie still needed to be in Maggie's life. Neeta felt that Charlie was an obstacle that prevented her from being with Sarah. This motive is confirmed by:

  • Gift Bag (Episode 4): On DeviantTracker, there is a picture of a gift bag in the MacDonagh car. The intimate message on the tag is in Neeta's handwriting.
  • Bus Ticket (Episode 5): The bus ticket is for 1 child and 2 adults, and the coded message on the back is in Neeta's handwriting. This confirms that the person Sarah was texting in the same code named "N" was Neeta.
  • Flash Drive: Charlie stored evidence of Sarah's secretive behavior, including a log of incidents and coded text messages. In the text messages, "N" is impatient about being together with Sarah and says that Charlie "won't be around forever".

Opportunity

• In her updated witness statement, Neeta provides an alibi for her location, although she has no physical proof. Her alibi is corroborated by Sarah, who has previously been ruled out as a suspect. This is confirmed by:

  • Neeta's Updated Statement (Episode 5): Neeta admits that she went by her hotel to pick up her wallet, then she stopped by the MacDonagh home to visit Sarah on the night Charlie was murdered. It can be assumed that her wallet contained the bus tickets.
  • Sarah's Updated Statement (Episode 5): Sarah says that Neeta stopped by to "drop something off" - this can be assumed to be the bus tickets, which the PI said she found at the MacDonagh home.

Robyn Dupre

Means

• It is established that Robyn grew up working at a farm and likely had average, if not above average strength. This, coupled with Charlie's sluggishness due to being drugged, means that Robyn likely had the means to kill him.

Motive

• Robyn exhibited obsessive behavior stemming from her love for Charlie, even after they broke up in high school. She disrupted Charlie's life by leaving him unsettling voicemails and spraypainting his car with song lyrics. Even after he died, she desecrated his gravestone. The reunion provided a perfect backdrop to try to get back with Charlie, but she snapped when he rejected her. This motive is confirmed by:

  • Love Letter (Episode 2): The language in this letter implies that Robyn was convinced that she and Charlie would get married in the future. She also says she has the tendency to lose her temper, which is a trait that contributed to Charlie's murder.
  • CD Case (Episode 5): Pay attention to the track listing and where you see connections to other documents and events. Creating this mix was an important moment for Robyn in defining her relationship with Charlie. On the CD case, she also draws a unique symbol: a heart with two lines through it.
  • Newspaper Article: In the article, it is noted that a symbol was carved on the gravestone: a heart with two lines through it. This indicates that the desecration culprit was Robyn. she also crossed out "Beloved Husband", giving a clue to her denial about his current relationship.
  • Vandalism Incident Report: The words spray painted on Charlie's car and other surfaces throughout town are key song lyrics connected to the mix CD Robyn made for Charlie. Because of this connection, it can be assumed that Robyn was the vandalism culprit.
  • Voicemails: On DeviantTracker, there are several strange voicemails recovered from Charlie's phone, which the PI says were all from the same phone number. In the last voicemail, a song you have encountered before is playing in the background. It can be assumed that Robyn left Charlie these voicemails.

Opportunity

• Robyn had the best opportunity to kill Charlie because she lived near where Charlie was killed. After killing Charlie, she had the time and ability to run back to her house and use a different vehicle to drive to the Taverna. Charlie's class ring was also found in his car during the murder investigation. This ring was proven to have been sold by Charlie and bought by someone else. The ring appears on Robyn's finger in the photo on DeviantTracker, meaning that she was the one who bought the ring and dropped it in Charlie's car on the night of the murder.

  • Address List (Episode 5): On Deviant Tracker, the address list reveals that Robyn's home address is in the Deer Field neighborhood, which based on the map is less than 1 miles from The Grove near the intersection fo Poplar Street and Willow Lane.
  • Yearbook (Episode 1): On the sports page, it mentions that Robyn broke a 2-mile sprint record on the track team. This makes it possible that Robyn could flee the murder scene to her house in a very short amount of time.
  • Pawn Shop Receipt: This receipt proves that someone bought Charlie's class ring from the pawn shop in 1999, after Charlie sold it in 1998.
  • Digital Photo: When the photo of Robyn on DeviantTracker is enhanced, it reveals that she is wearing Charlie's class ring on her finger. It can be compared to the class ring you received in Episode 2.
